Nintendo has finally pushed WiiWare out of dry dock and you`ll now be able to download new games directly to your Wii assuming you have an internet connection and room left on your Wii/Storage card. I`m interested to see how WiiWare pans out as it`s a direct shot at Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. Can smaller developers figure out how to use the Wii remote better than the larger devs? Will we continue to get more crap shovelware games shoved down our throat? Time will tell.
Here`s the launch list for this week: FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King (1500 Wii points) Lostwinds (1000 Wii points) Defend your Castle (500 Wii points) Pop (700 Wii poins) V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (1000 Wii points) TV Show King (1000 Wii points)

So will any SD card work for the Wii, or just the Nintendo Branded ones?

I have a super old 128 mb SD card that I have used for my digital camera and it works perfectly in my Wii. Just keep in mind that you can't load a game from the SD card. At least that's true with the Virtual Console games. I assume it's true for WiiWare as well, which is a pity.

So the Wii only has 512mb of internal memory and you cant load the VC or WiiWare titles from an external memory module? That makes no sense...seems like you fill up the storage unites extremely fast with games and game saves....How do you manage that? Delete and re-download the titles?

Ha ha ha ha ha ... welcome to my world. You're absolutely right, it makes no damn sense. But hey, that's Nintendo for you. Has anything they've done in the last few years made a lick of sense? Sadly there is no easy way around the storage issue. Nintendo recommends that you just delete the Virtual Console or WiiWare game off your hard drive and then re-download it. I'm not kidding. A couple years ago Nintendo PR had a famous quote where they said that the Wii is like a refrigerator, where occasionally you will need to get rid of something old in order to put something new on. I was completely dumbfounded. Basically what I do is keep a bunch of stuff on an SD card and then transfer the games over when they are needed. That's pretty much the only thing you can do if you don't want to re-download stuff. I wish that wasn't the case, but it is. It's bad enough with the Virtual Console games, but I can only imagine this being an absolute nightmare with the WiiWare. How big are these games?? The NES stuff is super tiny (which is nice), but the Nintendo 64 and TurboDuo stuff can be a little too big. There's nothing quite like having your entire hard drive used up because of Cruis'n USA. Uggh. My prediction: Nintendo will announce an optional WiiWare hard drive (one that probably comes with a game) at this year's E3. Mark my words.
