Looks like the BioShock movie has a better than expected director. Gore Verbinski is set to direct what he hopes to be an R-rated BioShock movie and I think it`s a good choice. The guy turned a theme park ride into one great movie and two OK movies. The game`s ripe with great imagery and should produce some incredible set pieces so we just need a good translation of the story here. Just as long as they change the ending. Just kidding. I threw that in there to poke Cyril a little. :) Anyways, Gore seems to be into video games as there`s a little tidbit in an interview alluding to interest in a Portal movie.Who would you want to play the roles?

I actually agree, the ending will definitely need to be reworked. Actually, the whole story is going to need to be reworked in order for it to work as a movie. In a game I'm fine with the narrative coming from taped messages, but that's not going to fly on the big screen (especially when you only have two hours to fit everything in).

The only way I see this working is if the movie is done through flashbacks, similar to what Lost did in the first three seasons. It could be about a guy who enters this mysterious world, but it would flash back on significant things that happened in the past (the building of the world, the rise of Andrew Ryan, etc.). That seems like the only narrative that would keep the story the same and have it all fit in 2 hours.

My worry isn't that it will be the Uwe Boll level, I have never seen any of those Pirates movies but I already know that the guy is better than Uwe. But my worry is that it will be more like Silent Hill. I'll explain: When Silent Hill was first announced I was excited. Not only did I love the original Silent Hill games (the second one especially), but I also loved Christophe Gans as a director. And then I saw it and, well, I was definitely disappointed. I would hate for BioShock to go the same direction.

At this point I just assume that ALL video game movies are going to be bad, so at least I won't be too disappointed when they inevitably prove to be total trash.
