Piracy`s pretty rampant on the PC scene and there`s been numerous attempts to solve this problem. The next step seems to be server authentication for single player games. Both Mass Effect and Spore are going to use SecuRom requiring the game to validate their CD-Key every 10 days. If you don`t then the game won`t run. What I want to know is what prevents someone from writing a proxy server once the authentication method is hacked (And believe me it will.) thus nullifying this process since they can then just create a patch to redirect the authentication location to another server? It`s certainly been done before and I`m betting this try at copy protection`s going to cause more harm than good. Look at what happened with BioShock and how they had to adjust their copy protection scheme for the PC.
