Bioshock was one of the best games of 2007 but a lot of people thought the ending was a bit on the weak side. Cyril (of Defunct Games) has put together a video showing off how much worse the ending could have been. There are some spoilers so if you haven`t finished the game you might want to skip watching the video.

The Bad Dude version rocks! I would've loved that one.. Really I didn't have a problem with the "ending"... I just thought the end fight was OK... would've liked a better end fight

There was combat, but there was nothing extraordinary about any element of the combat. The plasmids were nice, don't get me wrong, but we're still dealing with the same ten enemies and the same weapons we see in every first-person shooter. What made the game so good was the atmosphere, the way it made you feel, the story it told and how fully realized the world of Rapture was. You really came out of it feeling like you experienced something and learned everything you needed to know about this underwater city. The fighting was just an extra bit that was thrown in to break up the searching, as far as I'm concerned. And then after spending ten hours never excelling at the combat side of things, BioShock pulls a traditional video game move and gives us an end boss. Probably because they know we expect one or that we would have complained if there wasn't some bit fight of some sort. And since the rest of the combat isn't very good, the end boss isn't very good. It's not bad, but it's nowhere near as memorable as what you might have wanted. But hey, I'm a defender of the good ending, I think it's plenty satisfying (and very fitting, I'm not sure much else actually needed to be said in that ending). But I tried to make the video where I didn't actually say it was bad, I tried to keep my opinion out of it. Instead focusing on how absurd the 8-bit endings were.

I think one thing that's frustrating about the end boss part of Bioshock is that during the game you can setup elaborate traps and what not to take out people but the last level is just straight shoot, duck, and run stuff. Some kind of multi-level boss fight where you got to prep the environment would have been very cool.

Perhaps if they had an end sequence where you had to utilize some of your plasmids and to try and solve few puzzles instead of running and gunning would've been better. I really liked how they gave you such a vivid world in the game and there were plenty of great moments. And I didn't have a problem with either the good or bad ending. I'm wondering if some people who talk about the band ending aren't more complaining about the end fight rather than the end FMV sequence..
