More On: Sega Genesis Ultimate Collection
Sega is gearing up to jump on the bandwagon many people have been riding unofficially for years: emulation.  According to a Gizmodo article, Sega is preparing to release an officially supported emulator on the iPhone platform.  The Sega Genesis Ultimate Collection application will be available for free in iTune's App Store in early February.  When you download the free application, you will get one playable game for your iPhone: Space Harrier II.   Other games will be available for purchase directly from Sega from within the application.  The application will launch with the following games immediately available:

Sonic the Hedgehog ($5.99)
Golden Axe ($4.99)
Ecco the Dolphin ($2.99)
Shining Force ($2.99)

The list of available games is expected to grow steadily in the future.  It will be interesting to see how they handle the pricing of the additional games in the future.  The prices that they are listing currently seem a little high and very selective; it is obvious that they are charging more for the titles that they expect to do better (sales wise).  While this works fine business wise, it could ultimately hurt the application as a sales platform.  Unified pricing would make more sense and probably receive better reception from consumers.  I think that it will be very interesting to see where Sega goes with this...
